Fortnum’s Introduce New ‘Eau de Nil’ Ice Cream

This summer, Fortnum & Mason’s award-winning Parlour, located in the flagship Piccadilly store, will introduce a new ‘Eau de Nil’ ice cream. The limited-edition flavour is inspired by the nostalgic essence of Blackpool rock and aims to bring this iconic retro confectionery to London for the first time to preserve this dying art.

On Sunday, July 21st, to celebrate International Ice Cream Day, the first-floor ice cream parlour will feature a new flavour created by Executive Pastry Chef Roger Pizey. Throughout the summer, visitors will be able to enjoy this special flavour. Instead of the usual chocolate flake, the ice cream will be garnished with a stick of rock in Fortnum’s signature orange colour. Supplied by the skilled craftspeople at Blackpool Rock, these sticks will have the slogan ‘Fortnum’s Rock’ running through their minty core.

The colour signifies the scented peppermint flavour associated with Blackpool rock sweets

Fortnum & Mason’s signature colour, Eau de Nil, is a vintage, art deco mint green shade. It is inspired by the flowers and fabrics of India and was recreated by 18th-century designers. The colour signifies the scented peppermint flavour associated with Blackpool rock sweets and has been a part of Fortnum & Mason’s palette since the beginning.

Fortnum & Mason has a long history with ice cream dating back to the early 1950s. They were first recognized for introducing the Knickerbocker Glory to the UK as a celebratory dessert marking the end of World War 2. This year, they will continue to honor quintessentially British culture by celebrating the peppermint flavor, famous in seaside resorts.

The Parlour is the retro ice-cream destination for adults and children of all ages looking for some mid-shopping respite. Marble tables and vintage chairs line the room, adorned with illustrations all over the walls. Eau de Nil will sit amongst classic flavours on the ice cream menu, allowing guests to build their own coupes, sundaes and floats with an assortment of colourful toppings to choose from.
