With this cooperation, both companies once again proved how a useful object can be turned into a collectors’ item and a meaningful statement at the same time. The creative team designed inbound and outbound bags for business class guests using the design of the African fashion designer Mphelane Mareletse who symbolizes a new, aspiring generation of self-confident African artists. South African Airway’s brand purpose is to be “A Catalyst for African Growth”, Mphelane is the first testimonial who was appointed to bring this vision to life. Over the coming month, there will be other designers following Durban-born Mareletse to create a whole series of amenity kits. Mphelane who incorporates her African roots and sense for aesthetics utilized the existing South African Airways brand corporate identity in a fresh, contemporary, and natural way. The result is vibrant and sophisticated and an added value for business class customers who appreciate the quality of the pouch material and the attention to detail – inside and outside.

The holistic concept and design of South African Airways’ amenity bags also recurs in the Economy Class kits, which gives additional power and distinction to the recognition value. A small item thus has the ability to tell the story of a whole country and to speak for an exciting future – up in the air and on land.
