Here at Amenities we are a predominately female led team, inevitably with that comes the sad fact that one, if not all of us will or have been touched by a particular form of cancer. I myself have had close friends that have been through breast cancer & unfortunately one lost their life to it!
Indeed Amenities Publisher Simon Ward has a sister who is head of breast care at one of the UK’s leading hospitals. It therefore seems fitting that we celebrate & commend the fabulous partnership that produced Qatar/BRIC’S Breast Awareness Kits each October that come to an end this October.
In 2017 Qatar Airways in collaboration with FORMIA won the TravelPlus Readers Award for its first Breast Cancer Awareness Amenity Kit created exclusively with the luxury Italian luggage brand BRICS. This kit featured a hard shell with Tuscan leather trim in a rose pink colour. This special limited edition kit was complemented by beautifully matching pink accessories and environmentally friendly products from Castello Monte Vibiano.
Given out to First Class & Business Class passengers on long haul flights the kit included a lip balm, facial mist, an anti ageing moisturiser and a night recovery cream. Pink socks, eyeshades and ear plugs completed this stand out kit. Passengers were encouraged by a leaflet to ‘Think Pink’ & get involved in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In 2018 Qatar Airways introduced a limited edition ‘Pink’ amenity kit for Economy Class travellers to sit along side their pink BRIC’S kits in Business and First Class highlighting support for the cause.
Beyond the functional role of the amenity kit, it highlighted Qatar’s values as a global company and the efforts made to make the world a better place.
In 2019 Qatar once again teamed up with Breast Cancer Awareness to create a limited edition ‘Pink’ themed range of amenity kits marking the airline’s annual support to the cause of raising awareness of the disease and the funds needed for ongoing research.
These kits were made of vegan leather by BRIC’S and were available in two colour options; a white kit with the now iconic pink ribbon design and a charcoal grey kit with pink accents. Both kits featured a pink ribbon zipper and housed a message that read ‘Support the flight and think pink.’
As well as the essentials in pink & grey, the kits contained skincare products from the Italian olive oil company Castello Monte Vibiano.
For the fourth year Qatar continued to show its commitment to raising awareness of breast cancer by offering passengers travelling on long haul flights in Business and First Class the ‘Pink’ luxury amenity bags.
Additionally, on flights departing from Doha, Business Class travels were given the chance to sample pink themed treats such as guava and grape lemonade and assorted desserts dressed with the iconic pink ribbon.
On ultra long flights a further treat of a pink themed afternoon tea was offered. The offering extended to long haul Economy passengers with a limited edition breast care amenity kit and pink raspberry and strawberry mousse desserts on the lunch menu.
For the fifth year Qatar Airways in collaboration with the stylish Italian luggage brand BRIC’S are offering two designs, a pink & white kit and a black kit both with the iconic breast cancer ribbon prints. Each kit includes products from Italy’s Castello Monte Vibiano packaged this time round in special limited pink branding!
Once again Qatar follow the pink theme through to the food & beverages offered on long haul and ultra long flights.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker says “We value the health of our passengers and women world-wide and are proud to demonstrate our commitment by raising awareness of the importance of self assessment during our annual support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
Amenities salute Qatar for its commitment and un-wavering support of such an important cause that unfortunately effects very many of us across the world.
